Why we are building hardware
The software edition isn't going anywhere. But some problems can't be fixed in software.
No machine to find
A lot of people want SkyView and get stuck at step one: no suitable machine, or no appetite for NAS and Docker. With the recorder you plug it in, run the setup wizard in the browser, and it's recording.
We set the parameters
How many streams to analyse, how recordings are split, how fast playback can scrub: all fixed to what this box can handle. You get it and use it. No trial and error.
Used like a traditional NVR
Watch on the TV, replace a drive when one dies, update from the web page. If something breaks you contact us, and you never have to work out whether it's the hardware or the software.
What it looks like
This is the part that's decided. Price, size and release date aren't, and will be posted here once they are.
Two drive bays
Holds two 3.5-inch drives. Normally both record and the oldest footage is overwritten when they fill up. If you'd rather not lose anything, set them to mirror each other.
Plugs into a TV
There's an HDMI port on the back. Connect a TV or monitor and you can watch every camera and play back recordings without a computer.
Two gigabit ports
One goes to your router, the other can connect the cameras on their own. That keeps the cameras off the same network as your phones and laptops.
Detection runs on the box
People, vehicles, pets and packages are recognised inside the recorder. Video never gets sent anywhere.
Phone, computer, TV
Same account and same features as SkyView today. If you already use the software edition, your cameras and settings carry over.
Powering the cameras
Add a PoE switch and each camera needs just one network cable. We'll sell the recorder and switch as a bundle.

Hardware doesn't ship weekly like software does. We'll update this section as things happen, and write what's actually true.

About registering
There's no price yet and no release date. Registering is free, it's not a pre-order, and you can decide later whether to buy. We just want to know how many people want one and what kind, so we can plan the first batch. People who registered hear first when the prototype is ready.

Things people ask
Is the software edition continuing?
Yes. It keeps running on NAS units, mini PCs and Linux machines, with the same features as the recorder. The recorder is just one more option.
Will my cameras work with it?
Anything SkyView connects to today works on the recorder. Camera support is the same.
Do I need another licence?
How licensing works will be announced with the price. If you already bought a licence you won't be asked to buy it again.
Can I buy it outside China?
Choose your region when you register. Which regions the first batch ships to depends on how many people register in each.
